Tips For Implementing Centralized Hub Trash Collection In Your Building
If you work in an office, you might find that you are spending a great deal of money and time on transferring everyone's trash from their respective offices to the trash collection bin outside of the building. If you are trying to cut costs and increase efficiency, you might decide that you want to have everyone take their trash to a central hub at the end of the day. This will reduce the amount of time that is spent gathering everyone's trash because it will allow one or two trash bins from each floor to be visited and emptied, as opposed to multiple offices on each floor. However, it might be difficult to get your workers to be willing to help you implement this trash collection plan. Here are some tips for easing the transition and getting everyone at the office signed on.
1. Reduce the Size of Your Trashcans
First, you need to reduce the sides of the individual trash cans that each employee has in his or her own office. You want to do this for two reasons. The first is because, if the trash can is smaller, you are going to encourage your employees to empty it more regularly, rather than neglect falling in compliance with your new trash collecting ordinance. The second is because smaller bins are easier to carry require smaller bags, making it easier for employees to carry out the trash bags on their way out of the building and drop them off, rather than having to make a special trip. Make sure that you have replacement bags for the trashcan near every central trash collection hub, as well as near the elevators on each floor so that your employees can grab a new bag as they walk in.
2. Offer Competitions
Implement a competition during the first two or three months of the new trash collection regulations to have someone come around and perform random checks to make sure that a person's trash bin has been emptied. If that person has emptied his or her trash bin, put his or her name into a weekly raffle. This will encourage people to try to remember to empty their trash cans every few days.
3. Post Notices
Near the water cooler and other areas where employees frequently gather, post reminders for them to take their trash to the central trash collection hub. This will make provide reminders for employees to empty their trash cans while they are up.
